Playing the Los Angeles Kings in the finals, Montreal beat the Kings 4 games to 1 for their 24th cup. This would be the last Stanley Cup finals series to be played in the Montreal Forum. The MVP was awarded to Patrick Roy.

On Friday, December 4th, 2009 Montreal celebrated their 100th aniversary. They retired the jersey's of Emile Bouchard and Elmer Lach. Gordie Howe was brought out to intoduce Jean Beliveau. Other notables on hand were Guy Lafleur, Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy and Scotty Bowman. A 100th aniversary banner was raised with the names of every player who wore the jersey up to December 4, 2009.
