Montreal won their 4th Stanley Cup in a row in 1979 and they beat the Rangers four games to one. It was the first time since 1968 that the Habs won the cup on home ice. Jacques Lemaire, Yvan Cournoyer and Ken Dryden retired afterwards. Coach Scotty Bowman would leave the Canadiens to join the Buffalo Sabres. It was the end of an era.
