In the fifth and final game for the 1916 Stanley Cup title, the Montreal Canadiens downed the PCHA’s Portland Rosebuds 2-1 on goals by Skene Ronan and Goldie Prodgers, who netted the winning tally. The victory marked the first of Montreal’s 24 championships, a record surpassed only by the New York Yankees (26) in professional sports history.
